Wilbur really, really, really likes his cheese. He is paid in cheese for his work as a clockmaker's assistant. He dreams about cheese. He hides his cheese everywhere … and then worries someone might try to swipe his cheese. So, in many ways, he is a normal mouse … except for the paid job part.
He is an apprentice with a human master clock maker. Wilbur calls his boss Clockmaster. The Clockmaster simply calls his apprentice "Wilbur."
